Wow...I saw the band in Orillia, Ontario touring with Counting Crows. It was the first time I had heard them. To be honest, I wasn't looking forward to hearing them and just wanted to see Counting Crows.
The Crows left the stage to take a break and some clown in the front seats yelled "Hey, where are the Crows going?" obviously not wanting them to take a break. Then the lead singer of Augustana apologized for playing a song without the Crows ! I was amazed at the humility and sincerity.
His apology was soon rewarded though...the crowd then was totally on their side and actually listened to their music....you could have heard a pin drop for all their songs and the crowd roared with appreciation and wanted more.
We were all shocked at how great they are !
TO THE BAND : Don't get discouraged...don't get down...you're going to be huge...it's only a matter of time...and oh yes...I would have bought you a drink had I bumped into you.
ONE Suggestion though... play and record and offer more acoustic music...it shows your talent. I loved the live music a bit more than the studio tracks for sale on iTunes (I did buy them).
Let me know when you're back and I'll buy you all drinks !

I saw the band in Windsor, Ontario at a concert that I was initially reluctant to see. The night turned out to be absolutely brilliant with Augustana stealing the show, either by design or by talent takeover. I've never seen a format that allowed an otherwise opening act to mix in and out of the evening with the headliner the way Augustana mixed with the Counting Crows. It worked splendidly. And right from the opening number - a cover of Van Morrison's Caravan played in the style of The Last Waltz - we had a friggin' hootenanny on our hands. What a show! Not to mention the cast of characters on stage, that included bohemians, prospector look-a-likes, and middle-eastern rappers. Yeah, I'll buy the next round.
